Start-finish victory for Jessica von Bredow-Werndl

Neumünster – The double Olympic gold medallist seamlessly picked up where she left off two years ago in the Holstenhallen: First place for Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (Aubenhausen) in the qualification for the World Cup Freestyle with the Trakehner mare Dalera BB (84.39 percent). She had left the Holstenhallen in Neumünster as the winner of the World Cup Freestyle in February 2020. Isabell Werth (Rheinberg) followed in second place with DSP Quantaz (78.55%), which marked the end of a long break from competitions, and Denmark’s Nanna Skodberg Merrald came third with Atterupgaards Orthilia (77.92). The qualification was decided in the short Grand Prix – prize given by Madeleine Winter-Schulze and FUNDIS Reitsport.
All three riders emphasised how important and positive the organisers’ initiative is to make the World Cup qualifier in Neumünster possible together with the other dressage competitions. “It’s great for us, the journey from Denmark is not as far as it usually is to competitions,” added Skodberg Merrald, who is part of Denmark’s European bronze medal team and will be competing in the Holstenhallen together with her team colleagues Catherine Dufour and Charlotte Heering. The Holstenhallen, known as the “witches’ cauldron”, are the venue for a pure dressage version of the VR CLASSICS, to which a very limited number of a few hundred spectators were admitted at short notice. “It’s not that easy,” von Bredow-Werndl observed, “if the hall is not full, the horses register every single movement. Dalera doesn’t mind that at all, other horses react to it.”
Isabell Werth – who alone won the World Cup qualifier in Neumünster nine times – had set her sights on test routine for DSP Quantaz. The 12-year-old Quaterback son has not seen a competition arena since September 2021. The tasks for the World Cup Freestyle on Sunday in the Prize of the VR Bank zwischen den Meeren (from 11.15 a.m.) have been set – avoid mistakes, show off highlights.

“The organisers deserve such a top field,” said head judge Katrina Wüst from Bavaria. Like the two-legged and four-legged athletes, the judges have hardly been in action in the past weeks. The joy about the VR CLASSICS meets FEI Dressage World Cup with a first-class line-up and also new rider/horse pairs is also great among the jury members. Madeleine Winter-Schulze, patron of the competition and last but not least owner of several top horses, was happy to have her fingers crossed for Isabell Werth again and also Stefan Fundis feels that Neumünster sends out an important signal – to make sport possible. “Without the commitment of the partners and the sponsors we would not have made it, we are all really grateful for this support,” added event director Francois Kasselmann.

Damsey daughter Daniela wins the opening competition

The first competition, the Prix St. Georges in the Prize of the R+V/VTV Generalvertretung Kuschel, was won by the European Team Champion Helen Langehanenberg with the nine-year-old mare Daniela, a daughter of her successful horse Damsey, with whom the petite Westphalian was able to celebrate great successes in the World Cup in Neumünster. Like her father, Daniela can excel in difficult lessons and shows great willingness to perform. Behind her, DJM rider Helena Schmitz-Morkramer (Hamburg) with DSP Lifestyle and Benjamin Werndl (Aubenhausen) with Discover placed second.
